Peer Support Programs

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's Peer Support program is designed to offer newly injured patients the opportunity to talk with a specially selected and trained person with the same or similar injury who has returned to a full and meaningful life. The program will promote the following goals.

• Provide a support system for all participants in the program
• Provide a resource network
• Promote independent living, vocational and educational success to the level that is attainable

Peer Support visits are offered by trained volunteers who have had a similar injury. Peer Support Services are free of charge, private and confidential.

Our Experiences

Wojtek:
"I attended every peer support group when I was at rehab and found them particularly useful. I found most of the information taught to us in the various classes to be a bit too clinical, while at the peer support group they told it like it is..."

Courtney:
“During my stay at SCVMC I attended the Monday peer support meetings. I found them very beneficial to me and for others as well. When an injury first happens you have no idea what to expect in the moment and from the healing process as time goes on..."

Jeff:
”I very much enjoyed going to the SCI peer support meetings. It helped me see where my recovery could end up if I kept working hard at rehab. Initially when I got injured, I was optimistic that I would recover but I had no proof of that..."
